Do you need support?

We know it’s a tough time at the moment for the charity sector and those of us working in it. Please look after yourself and reach out for help and support if you need it – we’ve included some links below that might be useful (and let us know if there are any others you would like to see us add):

Redundancy: your rights – Acas provides free, impartial advice on workplace rights, rules and best practice. They have lots of information about your rights during redundancy on their website, and a helpline available Monday to Friday (0300 123 1100). 

Citizens Advice – Citizens Advice offers information about your rights and support if you’re at risk of redundancy or have lost your job, amongst a number of other areas including welfare benefits.

Samaritans - The Samaritans offer emotional support 24 hours a day - in full confidence. Call free on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org.uk.

Mind – Mind is a mental health charity that offers online advice and also has an Infoline (0300 123 3393) to answer questions about:

  • types of mental health problems

  • where to get help

  • drug and alternative treatments

  • advocacy.

Shout Crisis Text Line – For support in a crisis, Text Shout to 85258.

CALM – Support for men aged 15 to 35, support available via webchat or by phone on 0800 58 58 58 (daily, 5pm to midnight).

#CharitySoWhite – A POC led campaign group seeking to tackle institutional racism in the charity sector.

If you’re worried about money, there are a number of free support services who can help:

StepChange Debt Charity – free, impartial debt advice over the phone and online. They’ve also got a number of ‘Coronavirus, money and debt guides’ on a range of topics, such as furloughing, redundancy and benefits.

National Debtline – Free, non-judgemental debt advice via the phone and webchat.

Business Debtline - If you’re self-employed, a consultant or freelancer, you can get specific advice via Business Debtline. Call 0800 197 6026 or visit the website to webchat with an adviser.

Turn2Us – Provide information on different financial support available, and a comprehensive benefits calculator to help work out what you’re entitled to.
